Tutorial : How To Make A Yo Yo Necklace ?

necklace

This pretty necklace is simply made from scraps of colourful fabric - maybe even from old clothes that have worn out. You will need to raid your button box to find some large colourful buttons for the perfect finish. And you needn't just make a necklace. Try making a bracelet using rows of small yo yos or sew a safety pin on the back of a bigger yo yo to make a brooch.

You Will Need

A pen
An old CD
A coffee mug
Scraps of thin fabric in different colors
A needle and thread
Five big buttons
Ribbon

Step One: Draw The Circles

Use the CD to draw around. Draw three circles on different fabrics and cut them out. Now use the top of the coffee mug to draw around. Draw two smaller circles and cut them out.

Step Two: Sew The Circles

Thread the needle with a length of thread. Sew a few small stitches over and over at the edge of one of the fabric circles, so that the thread is firmly attached. Now sew running stitch all the way round the circle.

Step Three: Finish The Yo Yos

At the end, carefully pull the thread to gather up the fabric, making the yo yo. Finish with a few small stitches over and over in the same place, so it doesn’t come undone. Cut the thread and flatten the yo yo. In the same way make yo yos with each of the other circles.

Step Four: Join The Yo Yos

Sew the yo yos together, with the large ones in the middle and the smaller ones at the edges. Sew them to form a slight curve. Sew a button onto the middle of each yo yo.

Step Five: Attach The Ribbon

Cut two lengths of ribbon about 20cm long. Sew a few small stitches through the edge of an outer (small) yo yo, then stitch one end of a ribbon to it. Secure the ribbon in place with some more stitches, then trim the thread. Repeat with the second length of ribbon, sewing it to the yo yo on the other side. Tie the necklace around your neck with a bow!
